I am a self-taught musician, and I've played guitar and electric bass my entire life. Over the years I've instructed beginner and newly aspiring guitar/bass players on how to sing and play their favorite songs. Let's set up a time to get together on Zoom and I'll teach you (or your child) what I know!
Some of the highlights from my musical past – In 1986, my band Bricklin, in which I played electric bass, was signed to A&M Records. We did an album with Grammy Award winning producer Neil Dorfsman and toured extensively. Our song "Walk Away" was featured in the movie soundtrack of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure."

"Jimmy Goetz makes learning the guitar a fun and creative adventure. My son took lessons from him for about two years as a preteen. Jimmy holds an encyclopedic knowledge of the chords, melodies, and lyrics of the greatest collection of songs including classic rock, the blues, and even a small slice of country. As a bonus, he is a Beatles aficionado. Not only will Jimmy teach you to play all the chords and melodies of the classics, he will also teach you lyrics to (or in the case of my son "make you") sing along to your guitar playing. This skill set gives one a lifetime of pleasure as you learn to lead or join in group sing-alongs and guitar jams. I highly recommend Jimmy Goetz as a guitar teacher."

"If you or someone you know is looking for a guitar or bass teacher, I can't recommend Jimmy enough. He's patient, kind, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and engaging....all the things you want from a music teacher.
I'm a long time guitar player myself, and when my son expressed interest in learning guitar, I was excited at the prospect of teaching him. Unfortunately, young boys are not always so receptive to being taught things from their fathers, so with that said, we looked for outside instruction for our son. We were referred to Jimmy by a friend and I went with our son for most of his lessons and was always amazed at the different kind of response and engagement Jimmy would get from our son compared to my experience when I was trying to instruct him.
As a self taught musician myself, it's my opinion that far too many kids get turned off instrument learning early because of teachers spending months and months teaching theory, scales and progressions, when really most kids (initially at least) just want to learn some songs and be able to impress their friends. The reality is that most are not starting to play guitar because they want to be a trained classical musician.
I knew a few other parents that were also having their kids take guitar lessons around the same time with other teachers, and I was always amazed at how little progress had been made with the other kids after months of lessons.
From our sons first lesson, he was playing AND SINGING Beatles songs. He continued to learn new songs almost every lesson, always learning to sing and play at the same time. He learned Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Green Day, White Stripes and AC/DC just to name a few, and I said, the option was always there to learn whatever our son was interested in and because he was learning things that HE wanted to learn, he was more engaged and more motivated to continue.
So YES, I highly recommend Jimmy as a Guitar teacher! "
